Companies with a ‘People-First’ mindset focus not just on the engineers who are key to innovation, not just on the sales and marketing staff who bring in the money, not just the executives who set the direction, but on ALL key players from all departments. Growing a company and a culture takes focusing on growing the full ecosystem of people within and outside the organization.

Successful companies strategically and consistently put people first, and provide them with the support and resources to execute for the short term, and in the long run.

UPDATE, March 12

Given that the WHO has declared COVID-19 a pandemic and that the NBA has cancelled all games for the remainder of the year, and that many of you have a WFH policy, we are regrettably providing online access only to our March meetings.

This is a difficult decision, for we understand that relationships are built face-to-face, but given these extraordinary conditions, it is the best option at this time.

We will send you the link details if you are pre-registered. Feel free also to e-mail us at if you are confirmed to join us, but have not received an e-mail or calendar link with the online access details.

I’m sure that you are also adopting intensive hygiene processes and tightly managing contact with people and objects.

As much as possible I will try to carry on business as usual because business is about People, and we need People-to-People contact.

I’ll offer more calls than face-to-face meetings, more bows and waves than handshakes and hugs, and I’ll err on the side of caution and not participate if I’m not feeling 100%.

When we return to more normal activities, without WFH mandates, and COVID-19 pandemic concerns, we will also take the following precautions:

  • We encourage all who are not feeling well to stay home, and we will offer credit for a future program. Please don’t attend if you have a fevers or a cough.
  • We will offer ready access to hand sanitizers, wipes, and soap and water. Feel free to wear gloves as well. Public health authorities are saying that masks are generally not protective or appropriate for this infection.
  • We will make every effort to leave ample space between people:
    • We will limit the number of attendees to 50 people, though the room is large enough to seat 100;
    • We will offer a smaller room with a separate entrance for up to 20 people;
    • Our VIP Roundtables and Mastermind series will be limited to 10-12 people with more space between people.
  • We will discourage/manage close contact:
    • Instead of hand-shaking and hugs, fist-bumps or elbow-taps, please choose bows and waves and foot-taps.
    • We will stagger the sign-in and food lines and limit close networking.

Meanwhile, if I see you online or in-person and nod and wave, it means a warm hello. If I fold my arms, it means I’m sending you a virtual hug.

Please be clean and cautious, but also be calm and resilient.

Linda Holroyd
